Town profile video player

Chances are you've heard a thing or two about the music scene in Austin, Texas. Maybe you've noticed the dozens of clubs, thousands of bands, or the massive South By Southwest music festival. Maybe you’ve watched PBS' "Austin City Limits," or listened to a Spoon or a Stevie Ray Vaughan record. With its self-proclaimed "Live Music Capitol of the World" title, Austin has earned its stripes as one of the finest cities for music buffs. It’s apparent from the first moment you touch down at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, where local artists are piped over the PA system. Any sound is here for the listening: indie rock, hip-hop, folk, techno, and more. In fact, there’s so much it can all be a little overwhelming for newcomers. But, like riding a bicycle, being a fan of Austin’s music scene is only hard at first – once you’ve got it down, you’re good for life. -Patrick Caldwell
